Our history

We had a hotel in Agrigento…, so I could start the history of my B&B, paraphrasing the beginning of the famous novel by writer Karen Blixen (remember? I had a farm in Africa…).

In fact in 1820 one of my ancestors obtained a “perpetual concession ” by the Franciscan friars of the nearby convent of Sant’Anna and he began to build a building on the square Lena, starting from small already existing warehouses. The small square had at the time a certain commercial importance, because it was the seat of a market of groceries and fish, until the 50ies. The building slowly growed up ; a second floor was added about 1840, and around 1870 a third floor was built to have a separate apartment for the family that at the same time ran the hotel.

LE DONNE DI FAMIGLIA

The whole building was inherited by my great grandmother Agata Gibilaro Bonfiglio in 1910 and from this was divided to three daughters, including my grandmother Amelia Bonfiglio, mother of my beloved mother Rosaria.

It’s just like an act of love to my family…

And just as an act of love to my family and its history I strongly wanted the restoration of the part of the building inherited from my mother. After being neglected for many years, I created a special place , who spoke to the heart of the guests and who told a history…

You will find not only everything you could find in an ancient Sicilian houses but also several sunny terraces enriched with flowers and plants where you can enjoy breakfast in the morning and the aperitif at sunset, admiring the splendid views of the sea, the Valley of the Temples and of the old town.
